4) Hometown Hard News

 

    

    When saying the words, "I am from Pine Bluff, Arkansas" it is normal to get a reaction of disgust. Pine Bluff has a reputation for being a place one does not go at night or at all but that is my hometown. I am not proud of Pine Bluff and at times am terrified living there but deep down I have a love for it. Back a few years ago, Pine Bluff was on a list of most dangerous metro cities in the US. ( Pine Bluff Metro Crime ) Before that, it was on America's top five most dangerous cities so either it's getting better or everywhere else is just getting much worse. Where I live, I can drive downtown and can almost guarantee that gunshots and sirens will be heard. If that is the case, you will most likely hear about it later on Deltaplex news.

    My mom was actually driving home from work the other day and saw police surrounding an apartment complex. She called me immediately to check Deltaplex and sure enough the story had already been published. A shooting had happened at the apartment complex and a cop car had been hit in the middle of it. They later updated the article by saying that two men had been caught who had been in the incident. They were charged with many things and there is still an ongoing investigation. Tragically this is not a shocker to anyone who lives there or knows about Pine Bluff. The story did make it onto KARK which surprised me and I thought was cool.

 Anna McGough     UAPB Celebrates Their 150th Anniversary:      University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff reaches their 150th year anniversary and invites the whole community to celebrate. UAPB was founded in 1875 to serve as a college for African American students to get a degree. It was moved to Pine Bluff because of it having a majority black population. It has served well as a college in Pine Bluff with a wide variety of degrees and majors.     The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff is holding their celebration at the convention center in Pine Bluff not far from the college itself. There is to be no paid admission as well as being a family-friendly environment . They have set up many areas at the event where attendees can go and learn what they have to offer at their campus. This event was helped made possible by the Pine Bluff City Counsel, The Saracen Casino and Resort, and Go Forward Pine Bluff. All supported and donated to help celebrate this...

8) Public Records (Local)

 Anna McGough Public Records      By definition of Merriam Webster dictionary, public records are "a record made by a public officer or a government agency in the course of the performance of a duty. " Public records are normally fairly easy to find and get. Sometimes, in order to obtain them, you must pay a small fee,  but most are free. Examples of these would include things such as inmate rosters, bankruptcies , birth and death certificates, property  records and much more. When physical copies of newspapers were sent out, the bankruptcies were published on one of the pages as well as the new entities founded in the area.       My family would always look at the bankruptcies and LLCs to see if they knew any of them or to check the goofy names people named their entities. My mom worked for a public accounting firm and would check for client names in those sections of the paper due to them often being published before they could actuall...

19) Classmate Blog Critique

 Anna McGough Classmate Blog Critique     As an art student, I am very familiar  with class critiques. Most of the time, they consist of telling the person highlighted what they could do better and not so much of telling them what they did right. However, this critique will mainly consist of what the highlighted person did right because I see very few flaws.     The classmate I am going to be highlighting is Brittany Hatter. I have had her in quite a few of my classes and I find her to be an excellent person. This, however, should focus on her blogs which I also find to be excellent.      I absolutely love her blog page. The colors that she used are so beautiful along with the picture she used as her cover photo.
